This what I’m talking about…

Everyone that I have ever worked with should read this article over at ‘Creating Passionate Users’. I have long advocated that powerpoint and other linear presentation forms stifle the creativity of a presenter and hide the real messages. Especially pay attention to the sections about testing your slides for suckage, and putting each slide on trial for its life. Read it well – I’m always trying to pare down my slides (when i *have* to use them) to the barest minimum.

Managers toolkit…

Over at Slacker Manager – they are talking about a toolkit for managers, theres some really good tips on things that could help you as a manager – my personal list of items here:

  • Text Editor – I’ve never stepped outside Notepad, but I should test some alternatives.
  • Excel – is a constant companion for me, I use it for project planning, list making, action tracking and all sorts. I do need to step up my Pivot Table knowledge.
  • Datebook/Notebook/PDA – I use my Moleskine for journalling info and taking notes, my Blackberry (linked to Lotus Notes) has been my PDA….but I suspect that a move to MS Outlook maybe in the offing in my new job.
  • Phone – They miss the addition of a good phone – I use a S700I from Sony Ericsson, which is a cool phone with a reasonable camera.
  • Digital Camera – I use my camera at work a lot (Canon Ixus 700) mainly for taking pictures of flipcharts after meetings – this saves me a lot of time and effort in copying them into emails/notes.

What do you use that I may have forgotten?

Have you ever…

clicked the Google Search button – and wondered whats going on? I reckon that I use Google between 8 and 12 times every day…maybe more when I’m having a heavy web surfing session, or trying to research something. Of course, I’ve never really given it much thought, but there is some heavyweight technology going on behind that simple page.

Check this out if you are even remotely interested in technology – or numbers, because some of these are scary!

Great dinner last night…

With the ART guys from work – at the Bel and Dragon in Reading, superb food and good fun. Pictures in the gallery – link here or over there on the right.
