Good Luck from Southsea – 1964

I love this – Good Luck from Southsea – with a helpful black cat (in a bow tie). What more could someone left at home want as a message from the holiday makers. I think it was sent in 1964 – to Langley Burrell in Chippenham, Wiltshire.

The Sunken Gardens, Westbrook, Margate

Happy Easter Monday if you’re reading this on the day its posted, you might be heading out for some fun today, maybe even a trip to the seaside and a game of crazy golf – this, is the postcard for you!
This austere card is of The Sunken Gardens in Westbrook – which is near Margate [...]

Weston Super Mare – 1911

Slightly dramatic post card from Anchor Head in Weston Super Mare – which is contradictory to all those thoughts that Weston is just a huge expanse of flat sand.
Sent in 1911 (I think) to Abingdon in Berkshire – which is interesting because I thought it was in Oxfordshire (so there you go – it used [...]

The Esplanade, Weymouth – 1956

I’m a bit late posting March postcards – my scanner went a bit crazy – but I start the month off with a beautiful photograph of the Esplanade in Weymouth sent in 1956 to New Road, Chippenham in Wiltshire. Click more to see the message sent.

Bettws-y-Coed, Wales – 1936

A particularly nice card to mark leap-day (or whatever) sent from Bettws-y-coed in Wales, to Salisbury in Wiltshire in 1936. Its interesting to see that in days gone past, the postcard was used in much the same way that an email or text message would be used now. Click more to see the message.

The Clock Tower (Big Ben) – London 1927

The Clock Tower at the Houses of Parliament sent to Courhevoie (?) in France in 1927 – click more to read the message (in French bien sur)

Folk Gallery, Buckland Abbey – 1957

Maybe a contender for the most boring postcard, from the Folk Gallery in Buckland Abbey, send to Warren Avenue in Southampton in 1957. Click more for the full message to Mum and Dad.

Falstaff Inn & Westgate in Canterbury – 1954

The Falstaff Inn (still there) and Westgate (also still there) in Canterbury -  sent to St Swithins Road in Lewisham in 1954 – click more to read the message to Dolly and George

The Valley of Rocks – Lynton – 1924

The Valley of Rocks – Lynton – nice evocative picture – almost looks like a movie shot towards the sea. Sent from Lee Road, Lynton to Imperial Road, Wood Green in London in 1924.
