Blogger relief from Berocca

image Berocca are giving away some ‘blogger relief’ packs….which I guess will contain tubes of their vitamin-c loaded craziness (I love those buggers when I’m suffering from a cold – or jetlag), and some other groovy stuff.

I stuck my name down…might get something nice for free!

New Facebook Design

Logged on to Facebook this morning – and found I had a new design for the Homepage

image

Everything looks a lot more spaced out – more white space – and the news feed feels much more prominent on the left had side, the sidebar is now on the right and again feels a lot less cluttered – what is interesting, is that there are NO ads on the screen outside the news feed… I have no idea what that means to to the people selling them.

Overall – I like the design – I think you can force it for yourself by clicking this link.

The Iconic Images that define Britain

What are the 100 iconic images that define Britain? For me, the phone boxes above are a fantastic symbol of Great Britain – but what is it for you? Geoff Hurst? Stonehenge? Chavs? Tea and Scones?

Whatever it is – you can vote for the most iconic images (and even submit your own) and win prizes over at the MSN created Iconic Britain competition.

Wedding, then Earthquake…

Extraordinary photography – whilst shooting a wedding in Sichuan province, China, the earthquake that devastated that area struck, the full series of photographs are unbelievably poignant.

Why you should be using Twitter…

Twitter.comIf you are not using Twitter yet, then maybe now is time to take a look at the application that seems to continue to cause quite a buzz on the web. Twitter is classed as a micro-blogging application, effectively tracking the small pieces of information that previously might fly point-to-point on IM or be posted as a short blog entry. If you are using Facebook – then its like the ‘so-and-so is…’ feature, on steroids.

So – why should you be using Twitter – here are five of my top reasons:

  • Twitter is really quick and easy to update – you can use the web page itself,  a whole bunch of lovely looking desktop clients and even SMS from your cellphone. I use a Windows Vista sidebar gadget called Twadget, which is always open and chirrups peacefully everytime news arrives.
  • You can integrate Twitter with any service you like (it publishes in RSS), I automatically update my Facebook profile with my ‘tweets’, and I also publish them automatically here on this blog (over to the right there).
  • You can follow your online friends and here what they have to say, and where they are (lots of people use Twitter as a mini travelog/diary)
  • You can follow news and blog services in Twitter and get a really concise feed of information quickly and effectively, news travels fast on the internets – and twitter seems to be one of the quickest ways to see news happening. Following an event like CES is really easy on Twitter.
  • Its not a deluge – you choose what you follow and don’t follow (like RSS) but (unlike RSS) the messages are short (140 characters), so people are brief and concise.

Steve Claytons post on Twitter has some really interesting debate on how Twitter is becoming more and more mainstream, and eventually may become the new facebook. I’m looking forward to seeing what else Steve has to say on Twitter – and if he needs anyone inside Microsoft to bounce ideas off – I’m two floors down from him!

So – my suggestion is that you get over to Twitter, sign up and then add me to your list – I’d love to hear what’s going on.

three interesting facebook blogs

image Blogs seem to be popping up everywhere to keep a track of whats happening on Facebook (and its platform) – its early days, so I’m not sure how they’ll fare – but here are three of the first I’ve seen:

  • facereviews.com – reviews all of the applications that are currently being launched on facebook
  • allfacebook.com - the unofficial facebook blog – although I suspect they all are apart from this one
  • insidefacebook.com – which claims to track all the latest news and apps in the facebook world

Oh, and if you are wondering what facebook is – where have you been? Facebook is the latest social network phenomenon, adding users like its going out of fashion. I tell everyone its like a myspace, without the ugly.

I’m over here on Facebook – add me as a friend if you want!

More mixes than you can eat!

If you like your DJ mixes – you could do a lot worse than checking out discobelle.net - this is a standout music blog that highlights some of the best DJ mixes that I’ve ever heard, alongside some really cool and sometimes odd remixes  - I specifically recommend the Kid Fresh mix they posted recently which is awesome set of eclectic tunes, really well mixed with an old school cut and paste style which really lends itself well to the selection. Great Stuff!
