Sunday morning – and all is peaceful in my world – time for some inspirational browsing and some relaxing tunes.

Music this morning comes from Swedish singer songwriter Sophie Zelmani – click here for a nice list of her tunes on Youtube, or click here to listen to her latest album “I’m the Rain” on Spotify.

Intermittent sunshine, after a week of bright blue skies – still, that’s good enough for me to have the first BBQ of the year… steaks are ready, some drinks chilling in the fridge, salad to be prepared, but not before some Sunday inspiration.

Musical choice this weekend is Dreadlock Holiday by 10cc, taken from TOTP sometime in the eighties, a fantastic song for summer days.

Sunday rolls around again, the sun is shining and I’m spending a little time getting prepared for the week ahead. Some inspirational music to start us off… Vashti Bunyan has an interesting story, shying away from the limelight in the seventies until Diamond Day was rereleased early this century. Diamond Day is a beautiful song, just perfect for a spring sunshine day. Once you have that playing – here are a few inspirational links for your Sunday…

A Hero Speaks – relax…

Its a four day weekend in most of Europe – and our hero finder is taking a break – but he leaves you with this inspirational piece of wisdom as you enjoy Easter…

There is no one who became rich because he broke a holiday, no one became fat because he broke a fast…

Think about that as you assess your worklife balance over this relaxing weekend.

Normal service will be resumed next week – who’s your hero?

Up early to watch the Melbourne Grand Prix – even earlier if you take into account the clocks going forward. Time for a poke round the internets for some interesting links – but first, of course – our Sunday morning tune. This week, its Tower of Song by Leonard Cohen – I absolutely love this song, from its Casio/Bontempi rhythm up to the laconic humour of the words:

I was born like this, I had no choice,
I was born with the gift of a golden voice.

Give it a spin whilst you browse these links…

  • Death Drive – clever photography exhibition of ‘celebrated’ final drives. Slightly morbid, but beautiful photographs.
  • Improve your technical slides – nine inspirational tips to boost your slideware at your next presentation.
  • 10 fantastic Spotify sites – looks like my favourite music streaming site will be coming to the US soon, so it is worth refreshing on some of the best supporting sites. Use these to find some great new music to listen to. My playlist is still here.
  • There’s an app for that – Lady Gaga’s Poker Face ‘recreated’ using only iPhone apps. Very impressive.

Back home after two weeks in the US – jetlag is not as bad as feared, I must have used some of my own advice. Todays inspirational music is ‘The Homeless Wonderer by Emahoy Tsegue-Maryam Guebrou’, an Ethiopian nun who plays mainly from recluse, stunning music and an interesting story. Start that up, then read on for some of my sunday morning links:

EDIT : added the link to French signage – thanks for letting me know @7breaths_

sunday inspiration - 7 march 2010

Another weekend away from home – and this view is distracting me from trawling the interwebs looking for inspiration this morning.

I’m in Lincolnshire, enjoying some peace and quiet and family company – that is all the inspiration I need, BUT if you fancy a tune to keep you company this morning – try this : Mellow Yellow by Donovan – perfect for a lazy sunday morning.

Sunday Inspiration #18

Sunday inspiration is taking a short break this weekend – my recommendation is that you do the same – today is the day to try something different to get that inspiration flowing – here are ten starting points:

  • Take a walk – get some fresh air, and the heart rate just elevated a little
  • Pick up a book – something you’ve been meaning to read for a while now
  • Listen to some new tunes – try my Spotify playlist for some jump off points. Its here.
  • Watch some people – grab a coffee, take a table outside and watch the passers by
  • Read my inspiration archives – if you’re new here, there have been some ideas before.
  • Check out some of these blogs. Nicholas. Tom. Steve. Diamond. Londonist.
  • Hang out on Twitter. Run some searches for things that interest you. I’m here.
  • Start writing. Start Drawing. Whatever that idea is in there, get it down on paper.
  • Go for a walk with the camera. It doesn’t have to be anywhere special, there are great pictures everywhere. Take some.
  • Look at that to-do list – not the work one, the home one. Pick one item, the most important, start on it, get it done. You’ll feel inspired.

Normal service will be resumed next week.

Sunday morning rolls around again, I’m off out to shoot some clays and breathe in some early morning fresh air – when I get back, its time to enrich myself a little with som Sunday Inspiration. I’ll fire up some nice music in the background first – today, I bring you The Box by Orbital – a fantastic slice of electronica.

Here are some slices of sunday inspiration to accompany the sounds of Orbital.

  • The Virtual Revolution – the series finished yesterday and its worth reviewing some of the great information and interviews from this four part series of how the web has changed our lives. Completely inspirational interviewees throughout the sries.
  • Lake Baikal – I can’t imagine anywhere more dark and foreboding than the worlds deepest and coldest lake. This lovely photoset shows just how beautiful this place is.
  • The River Thames – I spent part of yesterday seeing London from the River Thames, a great way to see (what I believe to be) the most beautiful city in the world. Wherever you are, try taking a different view today, from a river, from the air or from the sea, you’ll be amazed at the different things you see.

Valentine or not? That is the question today… buried under a mountain of cards and messages or a single wish – either way, I hope you have exactly what you need. If after that, you still need something to warm your cockles – how about some Sunday inspiration, first up – is our music choice. The Hollies – Air that I Breathe, is one my favourite songs of all time, with the most beautiful lyrics:

If I could make a wish
I think I’d pass
Can’t think of anything I need
No cigarettes, no sleep, no light, no sound
Nothing to eat, no books to read.

Give that tune a spin – and then join me for a wander around some great links for this lazy Sunday.
