Hero–Commitment
If you don’t have enemies, you don’t have character. Paul Newman
If you are committed and you follow your heart, then it feels virtually impossible to have EVERYONE like you. It’s inevitable you’ll pick up an enemy somewhere.
The secret is how you treat an enemy…and how you treat yourself for having one.

Hero–The Truth
Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain’t goin’ away. Elvis Presley
Hero–Talent, Luck and Hard Work.
You have a little bit of talent, a certain amount of good fortune and a lot of hard work in pursuit of whatever truth you can find in it, and if you are really lucky, a terrific partner and I have that and those four things worked out for me. Donald Sutherland
Hero #31–Be selfish, occasionally…
There just isn’t any pleasing some people. The trick is to stop trying. Robert Mitchum.
Occasionally, you don’t have a choice… as hard as you try, people don’t want to be pleased – when that happens, you might need to divert your attention elsewhere.

Hero #30–Values
Every man’s life ends the same way. It’s only the details of how he lived that distinguish one man from another. Ernest Hemingway

Hero – Career
I pretended to be somebody I wanted to be until finally I became that person” Cary Grant
Reminds me of some advice I hear regularly from a leader in my organisation – if you want that job, start doing it – act like the person you are aiming to emulate, demonstrate that you can perform the role.
Friday Hero–Special #5
I remember that as a boy, there was only one club for me – Arsenal. Ferenc Puskas
The final installment of my World Cup Special heroes – this little fella is overlooked as one of the great footballers of all time. He scored 157 goals in 187 appearances for Real Madrid in the 1950’s. The quote is lovely, and reminds us that after the final on Sunday, attention will once again be on domestic football, which starts in just a few weeks in the UK.
Whilst looking for quotes – I also found this one about Puskas:
Look at that little fat chap. We’ll murder this lot. An unidentified English opponent before the 1953 game between England and Hungary (England lost, 6-3)
It just goes to show – never underestimate a little fat chap.
