No bloody way!
The 2008 – 2009 Premier league fixtures are out…and would you believe it, this is how we finish up the season:
Man U and Chelsea in the last three games – if it’s close, then that’ll be truly squeaky bum time!

Euro 2008 kicks off tomorrow in Austria & Switzerland, there is no England this time, so we won;t have to go through the endless obsessing about whether Lampard and Gerrard can play in the same midfield, or sit through the inevitable disappointment of us getting knocked out by penalties just before the end of the tournament.
However, it does promise to be an entertaining fewweeks, with some great sides in the competition and many of the Premierships top stars (present and future) on display.
I’ve been thinking about who I’d like to support to win the event, and then who I *really* think will win. So here are my predictions:
Semi Finalists – Germany, Croatia, Spain and Italy
Winners – Spain
I really think that Spain have flattered to deceive over recent tournaments, but this team – with the irresistible combination of Fabregas & Torres, plus David Villa and Xavi. If Luis Arragones can get them all together, and the sun shines…then its theirs for the taking.
Of course – come 29th of June – I could be proved very wrong.

I didn’t know much about Shearwater before I picked this new release up. A bit of research tells me that they are linked to Okkervil River out of Austin, Texas – who I have been really enjoying recently.
I had heard Leviathan Bound on a compilation somewhere, and I loved the combination of the slightly falsetto voice, coupled with the string backing – others have called references to Anthony Hegarty and its fair to say that the voices are a little similar (if not the material).
The album is more ‘folky’ than the Okkervil River sound, none more so on the beautiful ‘Home Life’ which finishes with beautiful chime sounds and ‘Lost Boys’ which is driven along by gentle strings and guitars until Jonathan Meiburg lets loose for the last few lines. South Col is an instrumental of metallic sounding noises, eerie and complex, and ‘The Snow Leopard’ starts off with a simple piano and vocal intro, followed by some deeper guitar chords and drums to create a really dramatic sound – finishing up with a wall of electronic noise.
With all the noise being whipped about Bon Iver at the moment, this may get overlooked in many reviews, but Rook is a great album – beautifully written and produced sensitively it is a really easy listen.
Shearwater – rook was released on June 3rd, and deserves your attention.
Long before Jim Davidson came along to buy the pier, and before the flood of 1953 – Great Yarmouth had a giant conker floating in its swimming pool to attract the crowds, as this 1934 postcard sent to Densham, Gateshead on Tyne shows.

What do The Marquis de Sade (Author and Weirdo – 1740), Johnny Weismuller (Tarzan – 1904), Charlie Watts (Drummer – 1941), Peter Sutcliffe (Serial Murder – 1946), Keith Allen (Actor and Hellraiser- 1953), Craig Stadler (Golfer – 1953), Tony Hadley (Singer – 1960), Jon Culshaw (Rubbish Impressionist – 1968), Me (Ummm – 1969), Nikolay Davydenko (Tennis Genius – 1981) and Freddy Adu (Footballing Prodigy – 1989) all have in common?
Its not the same thing that Rex Harrison (Actor – 1990) and Lou Gehrig (Baseball Player and inventor of his own disease – 1941) have in common.
At least not yet.
A nice card sent in 1958 from Bowleaze Cove in Weymouth to Chippenham in Wiltshire. I love the fact that the sender saw Charlie Drake (Hello My Darlings!) during their holiday. Loads of weather information going on here as well – click more for the full message.
