King Umberto – Rome – 1900
This is one of my favourite post cards – sent in 1900 from Rome to Buffalo, NY, USA – I love the opening ‘My Dear Lady Von B…’ and the grandeur of the post card – it really is a beautiful thing to have and hold.
King Umberto I seemed to be very unpopular – surviving an assassination attempt, before being killed by an anarchist on the 29th July 1900 – this card must have been printed and posted in just a few days following the murder.
