South Shields – June 1959

south shields - front

South Shields – sent to Hill Corner, Langley Burrell, Chippenham in Wiltshire in June 1959 – the postcard makes South Shields look quite attractive in a late 1950’s way. Click more for the great message (infection and colic!)…cheerio!

I love this postcard, it is so reminiscent of my childhood holidays . Holidays that my dear Father never failed to take us on – although he never really had much spare cash. We would spend the time walking the promenade to select the best spot for our ‘camp’ for the day. Usually with our back to the wall or rocks and there we would remain until the sun went down. I feel sorry for the writer of this postcard who – it seems- did not enjoy her holiday – ours were some of the best memories I have , Our wonderful Fish and Chip suppers after great games of beach cricket, never stopping, even if it poured! on with your ‘Cardi’s’ , and off again. Such lovely seaside postcards evocative of some great memories – thanks x
