Super Superbowl ad

I am posting this for four reasons; 1. Its a great ad, 2. Its a brilliant way to spend your advertising budget, 3. Its bloody funny, 4. It reminds me that i will be in the US for Superbowl Sunday which means I get to enjoy the fun.

In the meantime – check out this commercial (thanks boss!)

MacBook Air Case – for real…

A few people have found this site whilst searching for MacBook Air cases – only to find I have a spoof…well the fine people at Waterfield Designs have a real MacBook Air case – I use one of their cases already for my laptop, so their Air case would be really nice.

I. Drink. Your. Milkshake!

There Will Be Blood is the real deal, a bona fide genuine classic of a movie. A complete epic that will win Oscars and all sorts of other awards, and end up in top-tens, best-ofs and end of year lists.

Daniel Day-Lewis plays Daniel Plainview, an oil prospecting roughneck in California in the late 1800′s – whose lust for wealth finds him buying up ranches and becoming one of the most successful oil men in the early 20th century. Its a tale of brutality, greed and vengeance.

Day-Lewis is absolutely brilliant, playing the part with unflinching brutality, and lightness of touch where the script needs it. There is a lot of silence in the film, and its here where Day-Lewis is able to really shine, his physical presence as Plainview is something to behold.

The story is fantastic, the script is good and the direction (Paul Thomas Anderson) is superb.

Rightly so then, 8 Oscar nominations and almost universal acclaim. Epic.

There will be blood opens in the UK on Feb 15th

5 days on – still stupid

On Monday I went back to Woolworths, to see if anything had changed, it hadn’t. There were still 4 ‘Golden Compass’ cases on the shelf. So I caved in and ordered the game using Manu’s gift cards to pay and we’re promised that the game will arrive ‘by Thursday or Friday’. When it arrives, apparently they’ll text me to go and get it…my confidence is not high that this will happen.

My email was sent to Woolworths customer service department last Saturday, no reply yet – I sent it again today, with a copy to their press office, and their PR company. Let’s wait and see for both of these.

Morrissey – Camden Roundhouse 21st Jan

morrissey

Walking towards the Roundhouse in Camden last night there was a real sense of excitement ahead of Morrisseys first live shows in London since his sold out tour of 2006. A real mixed bunch in the audience, but all linked by a certain buzz ahead of the first of 6 sold out nights.

Just before Morrissey there was a great montage of films – Sasha Distel, Brigitte Bardot, some Steptoe and Son and a great clip of wardrobe tests from East of Eden.

Morrissey took to the stage about 9pm, opening with a great version of How soon is now? He ended up on his back on the stage with his legs resting on the drum riser – it was going to be an interesting night. What followed was a blistering run through a real mixture of Morrissey tunes, a few from the new album (so a first hear for me), and some classics & rarities from the back catalogue. A full set list is here.

For me – the musicianship was absolutely excellent, Boz leading the line like a trouper but the whole band (dressed in identical denim suits) delivering a really tight musical set. Morrissey was his usual self, preening, cryptic and every so slightly aloof. I liked the idea of the band being dressed in denim, the clothing of the worker – and Morrissey joining the stage in shirt and tie – the lord of the manor. He soon shed the tie, the shirt was opened to the chest and sweat started to pour, as he sashayed and swaggered around the stage. Typical Morrissey – well played.

The finale to the concert was awesome – a huge version of Irish Blood, English Heart and an encore of ‘The Last of the International Playboys’

My photographs of the night are here.

In safe hands

I was a bit worried about watching Messiah last night, I really was not sure if anyone could take over from the marvelous Ken Stott – but Marc Warren (who I hated in Hustle, but really liked in Doctor Who)  is playing it really well, as the dark, brooding and haunted DCI Joseph Walker.

There are plenty of sub-plots in the mix, affairs, past history (interesting involving suicide bombers and trips to the holy land) and the shadow of a previous DCI hanging over everyone.

The original Messiah formula is, thankfully,  in tact, a scary serial killer has tied the Iqbal family up and arranged them nicely at the family table,  after stabbing them all to death. Two nice Jewish girls have been hung and dressed in mens clothing and a Catholic mother has been murdered brutally in her car, none of the episodes very pretty. Considering the killer appears to be working through the worlds religions, thoughts have immediately turned to religious fruitcakes. And so, the local old testament bible troubler has been hauled in for questioning (of course – he is weird, but not a killer) and managed to tell the investigating team the theme that links all the murders…so now they’ll be off looking for someone severely troubled by the thought of impending Armageddon.

I’m pleased to see Messiah back on the TV, these are the drama that seem to work really well for the BBC – cops, mystery and slightly edgy themes tend to mix well with that fast editing, interesting camera work that the Beeb are fascinated with.

Part two tonight – I’ll be enjoying that via the magic of Sky Plus (it’s a busy night for the hard drive)
