I’m back from my travels – and to celebrate the fact that lots of lovely music happened whilst I was gone – I did a nice new mix for FREE DOWNLOAD! Imogen Heap singing ‘Just for Now’ live on French TV, and recreating the song from scratch, live – with a sampler and sequencer. Very clever indeed!
Genius!
Lovely weekend in Amsterdam, weather was acceptable – and the place wasn’t too crazy crowded. Managed to find a fantastic hotel, so we were well looked after – apart from a cock-up with dinner on Sunday night (was included – even though the kitchen was closed, luckily the staff made us a fantastic room service meal – with brilliant service).
Enjoyed the Heineken tour, and a canal boat trip around the city but wasn’t over impressed with the Van Gogh Museum, too crowded! We took the obligatory stroll round the Red Light District,which was funny – but really cliched. I knew that I would see brits on the piss – but I was impressed with the dedication of about 20 guys wearing “I’m with the gimp” shirts and following round a poor bloke dressed in latex and a gimp mask.
Definitely the highlight for me was just strolling round the streets looking at beautiful buildings, stunning houseboats and lovely views across and along the canals.
The food was good too – with a fantastic Argentinean restaurant (Ocho Grill – website here) on Saturday night – we had a kind of shared mixed grill with small pieces of meat from across the menu….including some killer, melt-in-the-mouth beef and some amazing Argentinean sausages… all with salad, chips, lush sauces and some cold beer to wash it down. Superb.

No question about it – this is probably the zenith of rap videos, the new clip for Kanye West – Can’t tell me Nothing – which stars comedian Zach Galifianakis, and features various chainsaw action, tractor driving and dancing country girls. Seriously. It WILL NOT get any better than this. Ever.
Fact fans will also notice that it has a cameo from Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy

Man, you’ve got to admire the dude in the driver seat of this one…decides to stop for some cigarettes – pulls into a petrol station and lets his girl get out of his very nice Ferrari for a pack of fags.
All good – ‘cept she’s nekkid – dressed only in gold stillettos, a bracelet and some serious tats.
There are sooooo many unanswered questions in this one, but I’m not even going to speculate on who, why and what?

It appears that the trick behind getting the French to queue for something, is all in the secret sauce. This report explains how a restaurant in Paris (Relais de Venise) serves only one dish (steak frites) but manages to do it better than anyone else. So without reservations and only one dish on the menu – people queue out of the door.
This reminds me of a restaurant in Strasbourg – Le Fossile – which was a huge favourite during my visits there. Whilst there were more things on the menu, there was only one main course of any interest, onglet à l’échalote- a beautifully cooked steak, which was then chopped at the table and mixed with a jus containing shallots and lots of pepper. This was a serious meal – served with copious amounts of fries, some good margaux – it was a pilgrimage every time I went to Strasbourg.
