Released today - October 1st - Distance and Time is the second album from Fink (aka Fin Grenall).
Built around gently picked guitars, some intelligent electronica and the subtle vocals of Greenall, it’s a superb follow up to Biscuits for Breakfast - and certain to propel Fink into the big time, especially with the track ‘This is the Thing’ which has been picked up for use on the current Mastercard ‘Priceless’ series of TV commercials.
Production duties are from Andy Barlow - who was one half of the amazing Lamb (with Lou Rhodes) and the style is similarly clean and spacey. It is easy (and probably lazy) to draw comparisons to Jose Gonzalez but you can hear him in places - the understated vocals are similar in style, especially on the aforementioned ‘This is the Thing’.
However, there is much more than just the track from the commercial - the husky vocal of ‘If Only’ tells the story of lost/found love, and the excellent ‘Blueberry Pancakes’ is just the kind of introspective, slightly melancholy electronica that I really enjoy with its relentless kick drum and urgent guitar strums.
This is a brilliant album - get on this before everyone does.
