After a few snowflakes yesterday, the weather was pretty cold in Seoul, so we wrapped up warm before stepping out to dinner. We took a ten minute walk to a Korean barbecue restaurant in the centre of Seoul. After slipping off our shoes, we padded our way to a private dining room set up with a long table and what appeared to be 4 chrome ‘hoovers’ positioned over the table (see my flickr pictures below). After we arrived, they bought in these small round barbecues filled with glowing hot wood charcoal…the heat was really intense, and you could see that the hoovers were extractor fans to stop the smoke filling the room. We had plates of marinated beef bought in, and heaps were placed on the grills - then tossed around until it was cooked, served with garlic, some lettuce, and cabbage salad…this food was amazing - even down the stainless steel chopsticks that are required. Washed down with local spirit (I can’t remember the name) and Hite beer from Korea…definately a top meal.
